How to Learn?

Mandarin Preschool

The children are encouraged to speak with staff and each other in Mandarin with gentle encouragement but no pressure to "perform". This is facilitated by the blend of children from purely English-speaking backgrounds with kids from Chinese Mandarin and non-Mandarin-speaking backgrounds.

Learning is self-paced. It includes channeled learning and is continually monitored with enough flexibility to change tack if required. Teaching methods include:

  • Visual stimulation

    - Wall posters and charts; cultural displays; Chinese DVD cartoons (including many well-loved English-language favorites which have modified and dubbed for Chinese language learning.)
  • Audio

    - Nursery rhymes, stories, poetry and other oral art forms.
  • Hands On

    - Crafts, drawing, playing with toys and painting.
  • Games

    - Games played by children in China and Australia.
  • Cultural Activities

    - Puppet shows, story-telling, cultural demonstrations such as food preparation, etc.
